This remote works exactly as advertised. My only regret is that I did not find this sooner. I have spent so much money on different remotes to get them to work with my Pronto and Nevo remote controls. This is the only one that allows you to control the power. I have it powered off of my Directv DVR's USB port. This port is always powered even when the DVR is off. I have it placed about 6 feet from the PS3 and it works flawlessly. I would and have recommended this to everyone that owns a universal remote and a PS3.

The PS3IR-500 ships in a well-padded box with just a USB cable and 4x6 instruction card. First, it's so refreshing that a manufacturer actually includes the required cable rather than make you do another shopping run... As for the instructions, I'd say they could have gotten by with a 3x5. Out of the box, just plug the unit into ANY powered USB port (NOT your PS3) and follow the two-step process. Within minutes, you'll be using your remote (I have a Harmony One) to stream Netflix movies or watch your favorite Blu-Ray movie.

As an engineer, I appreciate good design and am pretty intolerant of poor design. As furious as I was with Sony for not releasing the new PS3 with IR support, I am completely contented by this Schmartz doodad.

For Home Theater enthusiasts or the truly lazy among us, the PS3IR-500 will finally allow you to integrate the PS3 with your universal remote. The PS3IR replicates the full set of buttons on the Sony PS3 Remote and can be used to turn the system on, off, and access the "PS3" button.

The primary difference between this device and cheaper USB adapters is that it can be used to turn the system on and off. The main difference between this and the Logitech version is that the PS3IR can function with other brands of remotes.

A couple of things to note:
1. You need a USB port on something other than your PS3, such as a DVR, Tivo, cable box, etc. This is how it gets power.
2. If you don't have a USB port, you'll need a USB hub or adapter. An extra iPhone adapter works well too.
3. If you want to use the direct connection, you'll need to purchase a 1/8" MONO male-to-male cable. You will also have to go to their website and download the configuration utility to change "modes".

Compared to the PS3IR-1000, this unit is missing a few features. Among them is a way to check if the PS3 is already on. I have the 160GB PS3 -- the one that doesn't play PS2 games, which I didn't realize until I bought it.

Anyway, I used this adapter to connect a PS2 controller and it works great. The PS2 controller I tried was one of the Sony ones. I haven't tried a third-party controller.
If you are using this controller as a spare then I think its great alternative than spending 50 bucks on a new ps3 controller. Ive been using it to play Street Fighter IV and UFC with no issues.

It's difficult to find a reason for purchasing this item, at this price, for a PS3. USB cables are 'standard' and they tend to be cheap. I've been using USB cables for years already, most of them had come 'free' with the equipment they were supposed to connect and I haven't yet found ONE cable that didn't work or stopped working. Since the PS3 has no special USB requirements - all it needs is a generic/standard wire - there is no reason other than 'marketing' to justify the claim that this cable is specifically for PlayStation 3 or ' for PlayStation 3 controllers' because ALL usb-A to Mini-B will work with PS3 controllers.

The main use for a USB cable with a PS3 is to charge the controllers. Any USB-A male to Mini-USB male cable of any length can be used for this purpose. One comes 'free' with the PS3 and extras such as Amazon's own AmazonBasics USB 2.0 A-Male to Mini-B Cable (6 Feet / 1.8 Meters) [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] can be purchased for a fraction of the cost.

Another use would be to transfer data to/from an attached hard disk that comes with a Mini-B USB interface. The same cable used to charge the controller and, again, one comes with the PS3, can be used.

Finally, in the rare occurrence when your controller needs charging and you want to play while it's charging, the [AmazonBasics USB 2.0 A-Male to A-Female Extension Cable (9.8 Feet / 3.0 Meters) [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] or any equivalent will give you a total of 16 ft. of freedom by extending a 6 ft. USB cable by another nearly 10 ft.. I know that this works well because I am using one of them myself.

The cable gets 2 stars because it works and Monster would replace it if it didn't but I can't see how it could possibly be rated any higher given its being 3-4 times more expensive than most moderately price similar cables that provide the exact same level of performance.

People that would be a sucker to buy this would probably go buy a gold plated tin can, sure it's coated in gold, but it's still a tin can.

Buying this cable doesn't make much more sense.

A usb cable is a usb cable, and insulation and gold plating are just simply NOT neccessary, you would have to go through 6 regular cables before the purchase of this cable would be justified.

As one of the other wise reviewers stated, Monster is notoriously overpriced, and are infamous for insulating and gold plating cables that quite frankly are just for looks and have no functional value what-so-ever.
I am a guitar player, so I knew the quality and reliability of the Monster Cable brand before I ever bought this product. They are a fantastic company, who makes some of the most durable, reliable cable products on the market today.

I love the fact that this cable is 10 feet in length. The recharger cable that came with the PS3 is only 3-4 feet long - barely long enough to sit in the chair and play while the controller is charging! This cable fixes that problem. Heck, I can lay back in my recliner with this cable attached and still have plenty of slack to spare!

The quality is top notch, which is exactly what you'd expect from Monster Cable. The cable is nice & thick, with heavy rubber sheathing and heavy duty plugs. I just wrote another review for an Optical Audio Cable I ordered from Amazon that was very thin and felt flimsy. That product was a disappointment. However, I wasn't disappointed by this 6 ft HDMI cable. Everything about the cable gives you the feel of quality. Less than 2 weeks after getting these cables they have all DIED. The first thing I notice is they could not support 1080p, but did support 1080i. After a little more than a week of using these cables intermittently both fail to carry any signal at all now. Not a single device I own, cable box, bluray, computer, or tv will recognize them.

The cable I purchased at walmart is still working. I guess you get what you pay for.

PS3/Wii Portable Keyboard I purchased this item recently and let me tell you....I'm impressed! The PS3/Wii Portable keyboard is small, sleek and easy to use. Since I already owned a keypad for my Xbox360, i badly wanted something similar to that for my wii instead of having to buy a full sized keyboard. With this item i can now browse the web on Wii's internet channel and easily type what i want much quicker than i would with the wiimote. This item also comes with two attachments. one for the PS3 and one for Wii. It runs on 2 AAA batteries and surprisingly, this doesn't restrict you from using the shoulder buttons on the wii classic controller as i would've thought. Even the Z buttons arent inaccessible. this also has an ON & OFF switch on the side so as not to waste the batteries power. It may be confusing for some to use at first but you get the hang of it. All you have to do is remember to hold the SYMB button as a shift button and you will not have any problems. Overall this is a great product and i highly recommend it!!
